That's when he decided to launch a website to help them make informed decisions about their care (cataractsurgerydesign.com). "The website was designed to address the widening discrepancy between what patients knew about their surgical options and what I felt they should know," says Dr. Kuntz. "They need to be actively involved in designing their windows to the world." Patients shouldn't come in thinking the surgery is as simple as having a cataract removed without factoring in their refractive history, predispositions and post-op vision goals, says Dr. Kuntz. He points out that surgeons can use toric IOLs, presbyopia-cor- recting lenses, incredibly accurate pre-op vision evaluation tools, and intraoperative biometry and corneal topography to achieve very precise refractive results.
