The hackers even sent some of those explicit photos to The Daily Beast for proof and have threatened to release others. According to the news site, the hackers also claim to have information on specific patients, along with their photos. The surgery center, which boasts several high-profile British celebrities as clients, says in a statement that it has hired IT investigators, who confirmed that the surgery cen- ter had been hacked. Hackers can do more than just steal data. They can also shut down an entire computer network, including any linked medical devices. During the large-scale cyberattack earlier this year by a ransomware aptly named WannaCry, hackers shut down the computers, several MRI machines and refrigerators that stored blood at the National Health Service hospitals in England and Scotland.
