The hackers even sent some of those explicit photos to The Daily
Beast for proof and have threatened to release others. According to
the news site, the hackers also claim to have information on specific
patients, along with their photos. The surgery center, which boasts
several high-profile British celebrities as clients, says in a statement
that it has hired IT investigators, who confirmed that the surgery cen-
ter had been hacked.
Hackers can do more than just steal data. They can also shut down
an entire computer network, including any linked medical devices.
During the large-scale cyberattack earlier this year by a ransomware
aptly named WannaCry, hackers shut down the computers, several
MRI machines and refrigerators that stored blood at the National
Health Service hospitals in England and Scotland.
It's wasn't the first time hackers had broken into a surgical facility.
And it certainly won't be the last.
