standard high-def and 4K. Both imaging modalities create great images that let sur- geons operate effec- tively, but the increased image quality and depth perception pro- vided by 4K scopes and monitors produces life- like images of joint anatomy that, anecdo- tally at least, help me perform safer and more efficient surgery. Most surgeons would agree that the improved image quali- ty afforded by 4K enhances their views of joint spaces and helps them appreciate subtle differences in the surface appearances of neighboring anatomy. The improved resolution afforded by 4K can also help surgeons more easily identify differences in tissues when assessing cartilage quality, cuff tears and ligament tension. Surgeons who work with 4K can zoom in tight on anatomy without losing image resolution. When orthopedic surgeons see anatomy better, they're better able to correct and fix it. A few examples from my clinical experiences offer evidence of the potential benefits of working with 4K: 7 0 • O U T PA T I E N T S U R G E R Y M A G A Z I N E • O C T O B E R 2 0 1 7 • STABLE SPACE Maintaining fluid equilibrium ensures distention pressure remains consistent and gives surgeons room to move within the joint.
