ur pre-op nurses perform a time out with patients before
they're wheeled into the OR. They ask them to confirm their
name, the type and location of procedure they're about to
undergo and the IOL diopter if the scheduled case is a cataract proce-
dure. The nurses then compare the patients' responses to the informa-
tion that's on patient-specific sheets our center's scheduler printed out
the night before. There's also a space for the nurses to note the
patients' medication allergies.
After the pre-op time outs, the sheets are brought into the ORs,
where they're hung on centrally located whiteboards. The surgical
