Putting up signage indicating the significance of this zone (pictured), or having a red line on the floor demarcating the zone, is an effec- tive way of eliminating the distractions that can contribute to medication errors. No one is allowed to speak to any individ- ual within the zone — you may also place a red zone around your medication dis- pensing system — so the individual can focus solely on the task at hand: prepar- ing medication.
