They're called Yacker Tracker Noise Level Monitors. We mounted one above the nurs- es station in both pre-op and PACU, areas where medical students and residents tend to congregate and talk loudly (patient bays are separat- ed by curtains, not enclosed in glass). When noise exceeds the pre-set decibel level, the light turns red and the monitor beeps. It's a subtle way to get people to quiet down without having to shush them. The Yacker Tracker also comes with siren options and can say "Quiet, please" in 4 languages or your own recording. We paid about $100 for each 17-inch noise detector (self-standing or wall-mountable).
