"When the last person leaves, with no one to guess
"I'll go to the trash shoot, and get rid of this mess.
"And this time next year" she whispered with glee
"There'd be no more Christmas to come torture me."
Holding a red trash bag when phone gave a ring
She jumped and she swore like it gave her a sting.
The ER was calling, "There's a child on a stretcher,
"She's scheduled for surgery, now hurry and fetch her."
Shrew grabbed sterile instruments and a minor blue pack
She called the call people, she told them "come back."
Shrew set up the OR as quick as a blink
Then she slithered to holding, like a snake she did slink.
No patient on earth would, could, mess up her plan
Not even a Yahoo, with candy cane in her hand.
Ignoring the child, looking first at the mother,
She looked at the father and 12 Yahoo brothers.
Shrew asked all the questions, then looked at the child
She scrunched up her face in what looked like a smile.
She looked down into eyes, wide as saucers and blue
"Up" she heard softly, like a dove with its coo.
Shrew's practiced smile faded, then dropped to a frown
She froze and she gasped, like she was fixin' to drown.
That tiny Yahoo then stood up in the bed
And Shrew started quaking and shaking her head.
Tiny arms hugged and patted the Shrew on her back
