Then show them you take their ideas seri- ously. Next time a nurse stops you in the hallway, suggests an idea for improvement and then goes on her way (the dump and run), let her know you heard her, value her input and considered her idea. If she never hears back from you, you'll give her the sense that no one lis- tens to my ideas and she'll keep her next great idea to herself. To let staff know that their ideas really matter, we developed a 1-page form. Staff outline the problem and their solution (or new idea) in the top section. The bottom of the form includes space for the supervisor to respond to the idea within 2 weeks from the date it was submitted.
