We Posted Our Prices Online (You Can, Too) Pricing transparency is the surest way to appeal to self-pay patients. M ore and more patients are shopping around for surgery, no longer blindly going where physicians send them for their procedures, but searching for facilities that have posted their prices online. When you reveal the biggest secret in health care (the price!), you'll tap into a huge built-in market of self-pay patients: those with high deductibles, co-pays and coinsurance (plus those without insurance) who frequently have to pay thousands out-of- pocket for surgery. Look at it from the patient's perspective. When the first $10,000 comes out of your pocket, you want to know the price of surgery before you buy, right? And if patients can't quickly find the price on your website, you could lose cases to competitors that have jumped on the pricing transparency bandwagon. Here at Monticello Community Surgery Center, we've assigned a bundled cost to every procedure we perform and posted many of them on our website (monticellosurgery.com). Patients who pay directly rather than through insurance can know the price upfront: 2 8 • O U T PA T I E N T S U R G E R Y M A G A Z I N E • D E C E M B E R 2 0 1 6 Business Advisor Andy Poole, FACHE • SHOPPING AROUND A screenshot from the Monticello Community Surgery Center pricing list. monticellosurgery.com
