Groven. "In the past, staff might not have felt comfortable going directly to their supervisor and discussing their concerns. But by giving them an anonymous platform, I think we hear questions and thoughts about safety issues that we might not have heard before." Finally, to reduce patient handling injuries, the TRIA staff recently held a patient lift drill so staffers could practice using a lift to safely move fallen patients off of the floor and into a chair. Training was conducted by licensed physical and occupational therapists to ensure expert advice, and also covered basic patient handling to help save staff members' backs. "As a result, staff injuries have decreased dramatically," says Ms. Groven.
