On this point, too, there's ample disagreement.
"For many conditions, the traditional techniques that were bad-
mouthed and trashed by commercial interests for a decade actually
stand up a whole lot better, particularly when you remove all the
side effects that you avoid by using them," says Dr. Wall. "Some of
the re-analysis and clinical data show that. Careful surgical tech-
niques with new suture technologies — there's no substitute for old-
world craftsmanship."
