Giving thanks
When I returned home, I was overcome with gratitude. After seeing
patients in my air-conditioned office with the trusty help of a PA, athletic
trainer and resident, I indulged in another OR day, replete with 2 ultra-
furnished rooms and a world-class OR staff. My drills were fully opera-
tional and 2 spare ones awaited me in the supply room in the event of
any malfunction. Shoulder cases seemed magically easy with hypoten-
sive anesthesia, thermal ablation, cannulas and the latest bioabsorbable
implants all at my disposal.
Next time I complain about anything, I will think of the heroes at
Lenin Fonseca, who would crawl on their lips on broken glass just to
have a functional drill or an available hip compression screw. They will
never be treated to the abundance we enjoy daily. Truly we are blessed
beyond measure in America.
