Because of this, families waiting for their loved ones in surgery used to have to go across the street for a cup of coffee. To simplify things, we creat- ed our own free hot beverage stand in the waiting room that fea- tures a selection of coffee, hot chocolate and tea, as well as cold water. The set-up has been so successful, in fact, that the eye clin- ic managers from down the street recently came by to see it after several of their cataract patients raved about it! It's an easy and affordable way to keep escorts content until your patients are ready to go home. Christopher M. Lomboy, RN, BSN, RNFA, MBA Kaiser Permanente San Jose (Calif.)
