old items on surgeon preference cards are those items that
the surgeon may need, but are not typically used for every
case. When opening for a case, place the "hold" items aside,
unopened. If an item is needed as the surgery progresses, it's easily
accessible. If the item is not needed during the case, you're able to
return it to your inventory. We hold items for several services, includ-
ing ortho, general, urology, GYN and ENT. In 2014, this practice saved
us nearly $1 million.
