P
lacing red dot stickers on expensive items or items stocked
because of surgeon preference during each quarterly check of
inventory will serve as visual indicators that help your materials
manager track supply usage. Stick the dots on visible areas of the prod-
ucts, but not in places that interfere with storage of the item. (Avery
sticker dots are nice because they're easily removed without damaging
packages.) Note the date the stickers are placed on specific items to
indicate when the tracking began or when the item came into the facility.
Your materials manager will identify fast- and slow-moving products —
the red dots will indicate excessive stock — and see how long they take
up valuable shelf real estate.
