SCHEDULING Dealing With Day-Of Cancellations A day-of cancellation can really disrupt your schedule, especially when it happens early in the day. Rather than bumping all your patients up a spot when a patient cancels early on, simply move your last patient of the day into the empty spot on the schedule. Call the last patient on the schedule and ask, "Is there any possibility you can come in now?" He'll be delighted to undergo his surgery at 9 a.m. instead of 3 p.m. (he'll be able to eat and drink a lot sooner), and none of your other patients will know the difference.
