Page 13 cover. How many other photos were considered? There are countless procedures that require patient positioning that would not have resulted in such an insulting photo. I cannot conceive of any rationale for publishing this photo other than to incite controversy and to generate feedback. This is an absolute and tragic mistake by the editorial staff at Outpatient Surgery Magazine. I hope there will be an apology to your readers and that you will incorporate the input of some females before an image of this nature is published — even in the interior of your magazine. Kim Engebretson ConMed Linvatec Largo, Fla. kengebretson@linvatec.com Give Male Nurses Their Due ◗ As a male nurse, I find it very insulting to me and my male colleagues when your articles continually describe a circulating nurse as she or her. We have gone so far in promoting equal rights for women in this country, but we still have a huge stigma against recognizing male nurses in the industry. This needs to stop. All I ask is for a little attention and proper wordage (including the word him) when proofreading articles. In a world that promotes equality for all colors, races and sexual orientations, I just ask that male nurses be included in this culture and equality change. Thank you very much for your attention to this matter. Thomas Pufky, RN UHS Binghamton General Binghamton, N.Y. thomas_pufky@uhs.org
