Half of laparoscopic complications occur during creation of the pneumoperitoneum and placement of ports for abdominal access, according to a study in the October 2011 issue of the Canadian Journal of Surgery. The study also notes that most medical malpractice cases after laparoscopic procedures are trocar-injury related.
