New Maquet Moduevo Bridge Ceiling Supply Unit Clearing the path for enhanced care in the overcrowded ED and ICU As the volume of hospital admissions during the current pandemic continues to soar in many parts of the nation, administrators and clinicians have recognized the need to modify existing workflow protocols in the ED and ICU to ensure optimized, compassionate patient care. While the availability of ventilators has become the most publicly discussed metric of an institution's ability to serve COVID-19 patients, healthcare professionals understand it's but one of many elements of a prolonged treatment regimen. Specifically, a well-organized workspace is essential to ensuring better access to the patient's head and airway while improving the overall functionality of the room, especially under overcrowding conditions. Unlike traditional headwall systems, the new Maquet Moduevo Bridge ceiling supply unit helps enable highly-efficient care in a comforting, healing environment. Moduevo Bridge is designed to overcome architectural constraints above and below the finished ceiling — an important requirement for facilities tasked with converting available hospital space into fully-enabled ICU units, or reconfiguring an existing ICU's footprint. To conserve funds, a single unit provides the flexibility to serve two beds during the current period of increased admissions. In addition, two Bridge beams can be connected to maximize available space. Moduevo Bridge also provides the capability to position medical devices closer to the patient for accessibility to the ICU staff. By improving space utilization, Moduevo Bridge eliminates the potential to trip on or unhook cabling and tubing while reducing unnecessary movements, strain and fatigue. Equally noteworthy is the unit's comprehensive selection of reading, task and ambient lighting options that facilitate work processes (documentation, delivery of medications) while creating a restful, recuperative environment for the patient. An available Somnus light helps improve circadian synchronization to significantly reduce sleep disruptions. The Somnus light also can reduce the incidence or severity of ICU psychosis that impacts as many as eight out of ten mechanically ventilated patients in the United States. 1 Selected Moduevo Bridge models can be equipped with an advanced electro-magnetic braking system. This option operates in near silence to help reduce the incidence of patient anxiety that often accompanies unexpected noises in the ICU, ED, or recovery room. In addition, Getinge's exclusive Grab & Move handle automatically releases the unit's brakes to help speed distributor and device repositioning with smooth, highly controlled movements and with minimal effort. At the same time, Getinge's unique Ergonomic Positioning System (EPoS) makes it possible to quickly attach and position any component or accessory to the distributor at any selected height. Selected Moduevo Bridge models are designed to accommodate Moduevo Slim, Mezzo, and the new horizontal Sky distributors. 1. Milbrandt EB, Deppen S, Harrison PL, et al.
