A U G U S T 2 0 2 0 • O R E X C E L L E N C E . C O M • 5 O R Excellence enters its 12th year, which feels like a good time to look back at how far we've come since launching the inaugural meeting in San Francisco. We were new to the conference-hosting gig back then, but what we lacked in experience we more than made up for in entertainment value. That first show culminated in a dinner cruise with attendees around San Francisco Bay. It gets cold at night during the fall in the Bay Area, and even colder on the Bay — especially for the staff members who forgot to bring jackets aboard. We stood shiver- ing on deck for hours and chatted through chattering teeth, but we were drunk with success (and some celebratory champagne) after planning and running a successful con- ference that has since evolved into the leading annual meeting for the nation's top surgical leaders. Over the past dozen years, we've brought OR Excellence to Las Vegas, New Orleans, San Diego, San Antonio and Fort Lauderdale, just to name a few of our favorite stops. This year, Virtual OR Excellence is com- ing to your hometown. For the first time ever, the full conference is available for free to Outpatient Surgery subscribers. You'll have access to hours of great content and continuing education credits without having to leave your desk or get off your couch. The virtual meeting eliminates the cost, travel and scheduling concerns that might have prevented you from attending an in-person event in the past. We're excited to offer the OR Excellence experience to more surgical professionals than ever before and look forward to capturing a captivated audience who will embrace online learning and networking. The month-long event kicks off on Oct. 22 with an opening keynote by Kay Frances, MBA, a former standup comedian and current motivational speaker, who will talk about managing life's inevitable stress with a healthy perspective and a healthier sense of humor. Sounds like advice we could all use right about now. We invite you to take part in a series of live workshops every Friday afternoon for expert advice on running a successful total joints program, becoming a better boss and building a positive workplace cul- ture. Stick around after each workshop to close out your week with a tour of the Virtual Exhibit Hall, where you can video chat with vendors and other attendees, and enter for the chance to win amazing prizes. Virtual OR Excellence concludes on Nov. 20 when Rumay Alexander, EdD, RN, FAAN, delivers the closing keynote on the importance of championing diversity, equality and inclusion in surgery. Throughout the conference, you'll also have 24/7 access to on-demand sessions presented by a talented lineup of clini- cal, business and leadership experts. If you've been to OR Excellence, you'll recognize the insightful and entertaining educational sessions, intimate networking opportunities and the chance to connect with leading vendors. If you don't know about the meeting, now's your chance to find out why its loyal followers return each year to learn and net- work in a relaxed, friendly and fun atmosphere. Pre-registration is open at orexcellence.com. Sign up now to join us for this unique version of the con- ference you love to attend and hate to leave. We can't wait to see you online in October.
