Kathy Wortman, RN, BSN | St. Mary's, Pa. T he question is posed every 3 years, when my surgery center must shell out $14,000 to renew its accreditation term. "Why do we need to spend money on that?" the board members ask. Their concern is understandable — that's a pretty big chunk of change for a privately funded surgery center . But investing in accreditation is beneficial on many levels, something I remind my surgeons of every time they hesitate to cut that check.
