Safety S 2 6 • O U T PA T I E N T S U R G E R Y M A G A Z I N E • N O V E M B E R 2 0 1 9 Implement a staff safety pro- gram that includes standard- ized and consistent methods for ensuring the accurate reporting of injuries, and the documenting and compiling of all employee injuries and near-misses. This program should include: • Coding all injuries correctly for accurate tracking and trending; • making sure injury data is department- and/or unit-specific; • ensuring injury data is classified based on job title; and • analyzing and reporting data to ensure action items have the desired impact on decreasing both the frequency and severity of employee injuries and an increase in staff satisfaction and efficiency. Don't make the mistake of thinking you've solved your injury problem when injury rates decrease after a few months.
