The thought of having to stop and drop off prescriptions and either wait for them to be filled or return later to the pharmacy is a huge dissatisfier. In an effort to let patients travel non-stop to home with their medica- tions in hand, we partnered with a pharmacy across the street to create a free meds-to-beds program. We ask patients on admission if they'd like us to fax their prescriptions to the pharmacy, which knows which medications and what quantities to keep on hand. A pharmacy tech delivers the medication to the patient or his family in PACU. The phar- macy turnaround time is less than 30 minutes. We can educate the patient about his medication before discharge as he takes his first dose. Philip B.
