5-year plan Five years is arguably the longest period of time that you can use to predict the expected life span of your equipment, or its obsolescence. A plan that spans less than 5 years may be too simplistic, while one that goes beyond may complicate matters. You could guestimate that your sterilizer will break down in 2025 or 2030, but that's so far in the future that no one will even care. Moreover, how can you predict any- thing beyond 5 years with any level of certain- ty. Putting together a 5- year capital plan takes time, but the rewards are well worth it. You'll have a real good idea when equipment will break down — and how much it'll cost to replace it.
