We have a 55-inch monitor set up on a rolling cart that's connected to the internet via a laptop. This makes it easy to stream their favorite program in the OR for a few minutes as anesthesia is induced. We make both the big screen and the laptop visible because some children gravitate toward watch- ing the smaller screen. Sometimes, the kids will select musical favorites like current or past Disney films. This can often lead to a whole OR sing-along. We've found that we're able to gain the trust of our young patients and the distraction assists us in preparing the kids for surgery. Once surgery starts, the monitor reverts to its intended use: a 4K surgical imaging system.
